Kebabish Original, Cheetham Hill Road

Absolutely fantastic food, the food is mainly aimed at the asian community judging by the 90% of other diners. A meal for four for just over £35 - cant beat that!

Saints and Scholars, Didsbury

Located in Didsbury village, this quirky little bistro is set in a beautiful grade listed cottage. The service was excellent and I was served immediatly by a very friendly and polite waitress. The bistro menu was excellent and consisted of a selection of salads, ciabattas, pastas and platters. I had the chilli and chorizo pasta which I would rate 10/10. The food was fresh and tasted delicious! Very good value, the bill only came to £20 for 2 people! This restaurant is a hidden gem and definatly worth a visit.

Budget: £10 to £20 per person

San Carlos, City Centre

Great atmosphere, great service and excellent food. There is a large menu and a variety of different dishes to suit everyone. I would recommend the steak, it was fabulous. Although a little pricey, it is definatly worth paying that little bit more for excellent food, service and atmosphere. San Carlos is always very busy especially at the weekend and I would advise booking a table. The best Italian restaurant in Manchester, you will not be disappointed!

Tarantella, Cheadle & Poynton

I have been visiting the Tarantella restaurants for years now and every time it seems to get better and better! The food is absolutely amazing along with the atmosphere and service. I love the fact that the majority of the waiters are Italian; it gives the place a really authentic feel. I would definitely recommend the Pate Della Casa to start followed by the Cannelloni Siciliana for main and the profiteroles are always good for dessert. The Tarantella Lounge above the Poynton branch is a highlight also. It is a really relaxing bar area where you can have drinks and listen to the traditional Italian music! I can’t recommend this restaurant enough, it’s fantastic!

Budget: £30 to £40 per person

Whittakers Fish & Chip Shop, Cheadle

The best fish and chip shop I have ever been to, far better than Harry Ramsdens! The battered sausage is a firm favourite of mine. A must!

Budget: £5 to £10 per person

Afghan Cuisine, Rusholme

Afghan cuisine is a little bit of a hidden gem situated on the infamous curry mile. It features very nice afghan dishes, both for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, and the prices are very very reasonable. I've heard a lot about the chicken, my parents loved it when they came visiting. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area and starving for a nice take away (although you can also eat there).

Budget: £5 to £10 per person

Akbar's, Manchester, Castlefield

Having visited Akbar's in Leeds, I was excited to try the Manchester one. I tried to book a table at the restaurant but was unable too as they don't take bookings which was the only downside. Upon arrival it was very busy and I was told there was a 60 minute waiting time. I sat down with a drink and waited to be called. Within 25 minutes my table was ready for me which was excellent. The setting and decor were fantastic and it was a very relaxed atmosphere. The menu was interesting and consisted of a variety of different indian dishes that I had never heard of before. It was a refreshing to change to try something new. The food was excellent and very tasty! This restaurant is a must for all Indian food lovers!!

Budget: £20 to £30 per person

Amici, Stockport

Amici is a great restaurant on the A6 in Stockport. It serves a wide selection of traditional Italian dishes. I went with a group of colleagues and we decided to go on a Friday night so we could enjoy the disco that goes on until 1am! It was a brilliant night. The atmosphere was lovely, waitors were attentive and the prices were good. I would definately advise going on a Friday as the music really added to our evening! A great night!!

Chorlton Eatery, Chorlton

A nice little cafe/restaurant ideal if you want to eat lunch for not too much money. My girlfriend loves the club sandwich, and I definitely recommend the moussaka! Prices are very reasonable, and there is quite a lot of choice on the menu.

Cornerhouse, city centre

The cornerhouse is an arty-crowd-magnet that combines the goodness of an indie cinema, a museum, a small bookstore and of course of a pub/restaurant. The food is reasonably priced and is quite good, mostly featuring healthy stuff and regular 'pub food' like potato wedges and whatnot. The pizzas are particularly nice and thin-crusted and the vegetable tagine is quite exquisite. Definitely worth a try.

El Rinco de Rafa, Manchester Deansgate

El Rinco de Rafa is a little gem of a restaurant hidden in the Deansgate area of Manchester City Centre. It is a spanish tapas restaurant with an impressive menu, featuring excellent seafood dishes and spanish specialities which are absolutely mesmerising! The atmosphere of the restaurant is awesome, as it is situated in a sort of 'cave' downstairs. The waiters and waitresses can appear as a bit rude sometimes, but I guess it's the spanish way! Make sure you book a table if you are planning to go in the evening, particularly in the week ends when it can get very busy!

Budget: £10 to £20 per person

Type of food: Spanish

Cara

Eleganze, Stockport

Excellent Turkish/Greek food, great value & service with a relaxing atmosphere and decor. The waitors are lovely at Eleganze also, very friendly and happy to chat. Price on Monday-Wednesday of Buy One Get One Free is brilliant! We spent £10 per person for 2 courses and a drink, and were more than satisfied afterwards! Please try the Moussaka, its brilliant!

Budget: £20 to £30 per person

Gengis Khans, Manchester

Gengis Khan is a Mongolian Barbeque restaurant: basically you have to create your own dish by picking the ingredients and sauces (recipes are written on the wall to give you inspiration), and the cook will cook your creation in front of you! This is actually quite an entertaining way to go for a meal, and whatever what kind of crazy things you've put in your dish, the cook always manage to make it taste delicious! I recommand it if you are after something a bit different!

Gusto, Didsbury

Gusto is an Italian restaurant and bar situated in the bustling village of Didsbury. This restaurant is a real winner in my opinion. Situated on the main road it has a very cosmopolitan feel and serves great Italian food with a twist to boot! The atmosphere in this restaurant is the reason I keep going back. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the ambience is perfect. The food is also excellent. I love the fact that there is a large selection of dishes including a healthy eating menu and plenty of vegetarian options. The wine selection is also good, i love the Tropical Bellini! This restaurant is a definate winner!

Leo's, Chorlton

Leo's is a small italian restaurant in Chorlton: The food there is simply amazing, and it is definitely worth a try if you are an amateur of real italian food. The decor is quite nice and bright and of good taste, and actually quite romantic! This restaurant is a bit on the pricey side, but it is definitely worth it!

Livebait, Manchester city centre

Livebait is a pricey restaurant located near the town hall. It specialises on fish and seafood, and does a very good job at it! The food is absolutely delicious, although a bit expensive. Look out for the specials, as they often are definitely worth a try!

Pesto, Manchester

Pesto is a chain restaurant that proposed 'italian tapas': these take the form of reduced-size versions of popular italian dishes, such as pizzas, pasta, 'arancini' (deep-fried rice balls with mozarella in the centre - worth a try!). The price is reasonable, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is quite nice. Prices are reasonable, although the food can appear as a bit greasy sometimes!

Sangam, Heald Green

I have eaten at the Sangam on a couple of occasions, once being my 21st birthday. I really like this Indian restaurant. It serves large portions of traditional indian dishes yet the surroundings are modern and fresh. The waitors and friendly and attentive yet not pushy. The drinks prices are good too with Kingfisher and Cobra on draught This is a really good Indian in my opinion. There are alot in the Cheadle/Heald Green area but this is a definate winner with me and my friends and family.

The Bay Tree, Cheadle

The Bay Tree is a fantastic restaurant with really good food, wine and really friendly staff. We have never had a bad meal in the Bay Tree and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates brilliant food in a welcoming environment. I also love the fact that The Bay Tree exhibit local artists work in their restaurant too. The food here is reasonably priced and the dishes taste fresh and have a lovely twist to the english menu. Highly recommended!

The March Hare, Cheadle Hulme

The March Hare is a firm family favourite! It serves brilliant pub classics (the open chicken pie is amazing.) The service is good and it serves a wide selection of beers and wines. Prices are reasonable especially with the portions being massive! The beer garden is a definate highlight, especially when its warm outside. The restaurant is set out well with small intimate corners which are good if you want a quiet meal with a bit of privacy. Please please look out for the pear and dolcelate tart on the specials board. I can't express how good it is!

The Northern Quarter

I ate in The Northern Quarter a few months ago and I felt I really needed to review it. The restaurant serves classic dishes with a contemporary twist. The presentation is amazing and really adds to the meal. The only thing that slightly dampened the experience was the waitress that served us. I found she was a little vacant and dismissive. However the quality of the food and the lovely location of the restaurant really made up for this. The live jazz that was playing when we went was also a brilliant addition to our dining experience. I would definately go back with friends. I just hope we dont get served by the same girl. All in all though a brilliant restaurant with lovely food

Budget: £20 to £30 per person

Mo Tahini

Walrus, Manchester

Walrus offers a 'canteen lounge' environment where people can try some of the most up and coming oriental dishes in Manchester. The Japanese canteen style concept is very socialble and unique to anything i have experienced in Manchester before. After returning from Japan last year I am really pleased to be able to enjoy authentic Japanese food in my home town! The best dishes in my opinion are the Black Pepper Ribs and Oyakodon Donburi. The bar is also brilliant in Walrus, a great chill out area with contemporary furniture.

Budget: £20 to £30 per person

Type of food: Japanese

Yakisoba, Chorlton

Yakisoba is a bento restaurant proposing japanese, chinese and thai dishes at an affordable price. The menu is quite vast and you are sure to find something you like! The place is very well decorated, and the service is very good. They also do take-away, if you do not want to eat there. Although it is possible to go and eat without booking a table, I recommend doing so as it can get quite busy! Overall a nice restaurants to bring visiting friends!

Barinda, Cheadle Hulme

A brilliant Indian restaurant in Cheadle Hulme which offers great value, high quality food. The restaurant also has a take away so you can enjoy the great food at home as well. Please note though, that the Barinda doesn't offer a delivery service so you need to be able to pick up the food yourself. The restaurant is small and intimate, you can take your own alcohol also so it makes the night a lot cheaper. A brilliant restaurant with an equally brilliant take away.
