Pin Doctor
The purpose of this game is to provide the user with a “virtual patient” whose state has to be maintained by performing a range of “medical treatments and actions”. The actual patient would be a piece of fabric in the shape of a person, linked to a GUI on which the several vital signs would be displayed.
PACT Analysis
People: The people supposed to use this system would be children or teenager, from 10 to 14 years old. We can as well think that an older population would make use such as young adults.
Activities: The several activities involved in the use of this system are revolving around keeping the virtual patient alive, by reacting to the several variations of his state by providing him the relevant cares.
Contexts: The context in which this system will be used is in the framework of a classical game, around a computer. The user will be able to start a game by loading a certain profile corresponding to a particular sickness, or patient situation (emergency, pregnancy etc…) and, as stated previously, will have to stabilise the patient health by performing the right medical actions.
Technology: The system will rely on the use of a piece of fabric shaped as a patient, with several hotspots representing the parts on which the user can interact in order to influence the patient state. This piece of fabric is linked to a GUI on a personal computer, on which the game graphical interface is displayed. The latter would provide a monitor of the patient’s health and state such as heart activity, blood oxygenation and so forth, as well as hints regarding the actions that can be performed on him in order to influence these parameters. The pins would represent the different artefacts that can be used to perform medical actions, such as scalpels, transfusion needles, syringes, thermometer and so forth.
